Celestial Being – Raise The Vibration (Crackazat Club Mix) [Z Records]
Felix Buxton, better known as one half of Basement Jaxx is back with his new project Celestial Being and the magnificent track “Raise The Vibration”, remixed by Z Records own Crackazat. The remix is jazzy, with funky guitars and a xylophone break that adds a bit of elegance! The track begs to be played in the sunshine, although, I am sure no one would mind hearing it after hours either!
Curtis Mayfield – Move On Up (Mark Knight Extended Remix) [Spinnin’ Records]
You might think there is no reason to remix Curtis Mayfield’s classic soul track “Move On Up”, but that is not how Mark Knight saw it! The “Move On Up (Mark Knight Extended Remix)” is a perfect example of taking a song with history and a terrific hook, adding some modern-day Disco vibes, and voila, you have a track that is instantly recognizable that is going to make you head straight for the dancefloor in 2024!
Audiowhores & Groove Assassin – Music feat. Hannah Khemoh [Midnight Riot! Records]
Audiowhores have been on a roll lately with their funky releases for Midnight Riot! Records. June gives us a great, straightforward Disco jam collaboration with Groove Assassin simply titled “Music”. These lyrics are simple, but Hannah Khemoh delivers the vocal with such conviction and soul that you really won’t care! Preach the good word of Disco!
Gavin Turek – IOU [Madame Gold Records]
Gavin Turek, aka Diva of the People, is setting the summer on fire with her latest single “IOU”. The lyric per Turek’s Instagram is ‘IOU ZER-O IM IN CON-TROL/PYT NOT FOR UR PLEAS-URE THO/ALL I NEED SOMETHIN IM-POSS-I-BLE/IOU N-O’. The lyric is rythmic and a little hypnotizing (written with phebestarr) and the melody is something that came about in Berlin with Boyz Noize. It took a few years to coe together, but the end result was absolutely worth the wait!
AXNÉR – GYAML [Disco Freaks Recordings]
AXNÉR doesn’t put out a lot of music, so it’s always a treat when a new track of theirs comes out! This June we are given the breezy “GYAML” (Give You All My Love) just in time for pool season. Julia Axnér’s vocals sound fresh and approachable, and who doesn’t love a great sax solo? Multi-instrumentalist Chris Davies rounds out the duo and I know we can expect more yummy Disco from this couple!
John Grant – All That School For Nothing [Bella Union]
John Grant is one of the most underrated artists of this generation. His lyrics are consistently sharp, witty, and occasionally biting, which is the case with “All That School For Nothing”. John is mad at somebody, but that anger is cloaked in the funkiest-sounding package possible. The track is a slow burner with classic four-on-the-floor bass, and Grant playing with his voice, both with falsetto and mechanical manipulation. Don’t expect more of this sound on The Art of The Lie, but if this gets you to check out John Grant, that’s good!
JaFunk – Yellow Daze [Luckie Star Records]
JaFunk is a true disciple of Disco. He became obsessed with late 70s and early 80s Disco, so he learned how to play guitar and bass, enlisted the vocal talent of Adi Oasis, then invited Triple H Horns to complete the sound. the result is the summer-ready “Yellow Daze” from his forthcoming full-length studio album, Disco Nights. Check out his Instagram to learn more about how to create Disco music that sounds like it’s still 1979!
Rose Rose – Sugar Hill (Night Version) [Neville Street Music]
Rose Rose released their Eye To Eye EP in 2023, but an all-new batch of remixes was released this June, including the French Touch-influenced “Sugar Hill (Night Version)”. This updated version of Sugar Hill sounds like a cool summer breeze at night. The vibe is very chill, the perfect winddown from our busy lives. ‘Take a break, be awake’ is the lyric, and I think we could all afford to do that occasionally.
The Magician – Never Alone feat. Alioth [Potion Records]
The Magician (Stephen Fasano) has been at the top of his game for the last 15 years remixing tracks for artists like Lykke Li, Clean Bandit, and Years & Years, but now it’s his turn! The Belgian artist is releasing his first-ever studio album Voyage, with “Never Alone” as the first single, featuring Moroccan/Belgian singer-songwriter Alioth on vocal duties. The track has a fresh Nu-Disco feel, an uplifting lyric, and a bright energy to match! After years of traveling the globe, The Magician has created an album to listen to anywhere you might go.
Purple Disco Machine & Chromeo – Heartbreaker (Extended Mix) [Sweat It Out]
When Purple Disco Machine took an opening slot for Chromeo‘s 2022 Funk On The Rocks concert, Dave 1 mentioned there was music in the works between the two artists, and the 80s-tinged “Heartbreaker” is the result. Purple Disco Machine’s upcoming LP Paradise is absolutely star-studded, featuring Metronomy, Yung Bae, Lorenz Rhode with Jake Spears, Nile Rodgers, and Roosevelt, to name a few! Look for the LP on September 20, 2024, but in the meantime, enjoy “Heartbreaker” as a summer jam!
Tonique and Man – Running After Time (3Kelves & Dylan C. Greene Remix) [TONIQUE Records]
Tonique and Man (Jean Tonique and Mi Man) released Come In, We’re Open back in 2023, and June 2024 brought the deluxe version of the album including the incredibly funky remix of “Running After Time” by hot newcomer 3kelves and Dylan C. Greene. This remix adds a synth-heavy, space Disco vibe, plus punchy guitar riffs while maintaining the integrity of the original track. Pick up the deluxe version now!
ASHRR – Different Kind of Life (ASHRR Soundsystem Version) [20/20 Vision Recordings]
ASHRR’s members all have pedigreed musical careers, two producers (Ethan Allen and Josh Charles) and vocalist (Steven Davis). Together they formed ASHRR, whose sound is heavily influenced by 80s New Wave and Synth-Pop. When these artists feel clubby, they remix themselves as ASHRR Soundsystem, and they’ve given “Different Kind Of Life” a dubbed-out, ala LCD Soundsystem meets Happy Monday’s vibe. Look for their LP Sunshine Low on September 20, 2024.
Rikky Disco – L.O.V.E. (Love Is Basic) (Extended Mix) [The Disco Express]
Sweden’s Rikky Disco wasn’t messing around when they put together their Love Life EP! “L.O.V.E. (Love Is Basic” is an absolute Disco banger, full of lush strings and Fanacy’s sweet, sultry vocals. “Love Life” is equally hot, and this EP includes a sweat-drenched remix by Hotmood. Check it out on The Disco Express label.
Scruscru – Good To Me [Tropical Disco Records]
Scruscru‘s “Good To Me” is a masterclass in Disco simplicity. He (Anton Bogomolov) gives us sweet, soulful female vocals, a steady, funky bassline, flutes, and some tropical vibes and you have a summertime Disco classic on your hands! Put on your sunglasses, slather on some SPF 50, grab a cocktail, and find the nearest body of water to enjoy this jam!
Hamza Rahimtula – Disco A Wagadugu [Dynamite Disco Club]
Hamza Rahimtula brings African Funk to the Disco dancefloor with “Disco A Wagadugu”. The afro-tinged vocals blend perfectly with the jammin’ bass, delicate percussion, and breezy strings, all laced together with bouncy synths, creating a party-ready summer jam!
