Marvin Gaye fans rejoice! South Street Records are issuing for the first time ever on 180-gram vinyl the classic tracks “I Wanna Be Where You Are (Unedited Mix)” and “I Want You (Jam – Alternate Mix)” on the B-side.
You will remember both tracks from Gaye’s classic 1976 release I Want You, but these versions are not the ones burned into your memory. “I Wanna Be Where You Are” was originally included as an interlude, and now we get to hear it in all of its glory, clocking in at over 6 minutes. The original version was recorded by then-child singer Michael Jackson in 1972. Marvin Gaye loved the track and wanted to sing his own version of it, and we finally get to hear it as it should have been all along.
The B-side of this release is the much more recognizable “I Want You”, but this version is an alternate jam, with Gaye’s vocals only coming in toward the end of the track. Both songs were written by the power duo Leon Ware and Arthur ‘T-Boy’ Ross. The writers were able to open up Gaye’s sound to a disco audience, making the 1977 track “Got To Give It Up” hugely successful due to its wide appeal.
Whether you are a DJ, a Marvin Gaye fan, or a vinyl collector, this 180-gram 12-inch vinyl release is one any collector will be proud to have in their collection! Hit the buy link over at Juno to grab your copy today!
