Lunacy Audio is introducing Pastels, a new sample library for CUBE that offers up a fresh bouquet of harps and mallets. Pastels is on sale for only $29 as part of Lunacy Audio’s Spring Sale, with 40+% off all products starting Thursday April 13th.
Pastels is a new expansion pack for CUBE, Lunacy Audio’s award-winning sampler and vector synth plugin. It’s packed with some of Lunacy’s most exquisitely-sampled sounds yet: harps with gorgeous articulations, playful kalimba plucks, and a wide range of mallet-based sounds, including marimbas, vibraphones, and steelpan.
The team at Lunacy Audio was inspired by artists pushing the boundaries of lofi music for this pack. The timing feels right. Lofi music has been around for decades, but as new seasons revive old fashions, lofi seems to be experiencing a resurgence. Just a couple of months ago, dubstep pioneer Skrillex carved out new sonic territory with two releases that frequently veer into lofi house. One of the more prominent featured artists was renowned lofi electronica producer Four Tet. Meanwhile, the prominent Lofi Girl YouTube account and Spotify profile continues to popularize the lofi genre and take it into new directions. Just this week a companion profile, Synthwave Boy, was announced to meld the world of lofi and synthwave, with “beats to chill/game to.”
It’s an opportune moment for Pastels and the broader CUBE ecosystem. Harps and mallets from Pastels and intimate keys and cinematic synth pads from CUBE’s existing sounds are a perfect combination for a hybrid lofi synthwave sound. Mallet-based tones like marimbas and vibraphones have always served up captivating lofi melodies. The mallet-based sounds in Pastels, which also include steelpan and even tuned wrenches (like an even more fun take on a xylophone), conjure memories of childhood toys and give a playful vibe. The plucked sounds in Pastels also work really well for lofi with kalimbas keeping the whimsical theme going. The harps can play soothing melodies or add texture with glissandos and trills that work perfectly as lofi sound beds or transitions between parts.
While Pastels was inspired by lofi production, it works equally well for pop, hip hop, EDM, and cinematic scores. It adds 120 new presets and 30 new sound sources to Lunacy Audio’s extensive ecosystem of expansion packs, including Air for hybrid winds, Threads for futuristic strings, and Rumble for synth bass and percussion. Pastels is launching at an introductory promotional price of $29 to kick off Lunacy Audio’s Spring Sale, which runs through May 7th.
Throughout the sale, Lunacy Audio’s Everything Bundle, which includes CUBE, Rumble, Threads, and Air, is available for only $199. All other Lunacy Audio products and bundles are 40+% off as well. For existing customers, there’s a new “Complete My Bundle” feature that lets you automatically rack up the savings.
