Scenes and Sounds
Paul Rose, known globally as Scuba, had already built a long legacy across multiple eras of UK and European club culture.
His role in pushing dubstep forward through Hotflush Recordings placed him at the center of a movement that influenced a generation of producers. His SUB:STANCE residency at Berghain later became one of the defining pillars of that period, giving him a platform to refine his sound and expand into techno, house, and hybrid forms that carried his style forward without losing its foundation.
Across this progression, he pushed long-term development for artists through Hotflush, releasing early music from names like Joy Orbison and Mount Kimbie. He also delivered respected mixes for DJ Kicks, Fabric, and Ostgut Ton, reinforcing his reputation as someone who understood how to shape momentum across both clubs and recorded formats. His 2024 Digital Underground live tour expanded his reach even further, followed by a run of dates across Asia that touched Kyoto, Nagoya, Tokyo, Koh Phangan, Singapore, Danang, Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Beijing.
Inside “GetUppp”
The title track carried a steady forward lift built around clean percussion and subtle vocal detail. The rhythm moved with tight control, giving the groove freedom to build without rushing. The bassline locked everything into place with a sense of movement shaped for late hours and rising floors. “406 Dub” took a deeper route and leaned into space, tension, and repetition.
The production relied on atmosphere and pulse, drawing from the spirit of dub techno while keeping everything centered on flow and rhythm. His Crosstown Rebels debut landed at a moment when he had reconnected with the live side of his work and reinforced why he remained one of electronic music’s most respected voices. “GetUppp” added another layer to his evolution and demonstrated his ability to bring experience into a new context with precision and intent.
